A Call for St. John’s School Connections

Many years ago I wrote a short history of St John’s School in Penge. Now I’m working with the school on a much-enlarged and updated version.

The school has given me full access to its extensive archives which hold a wealth of materials going back as far as 1837. The problem is that there doesn’t seem to be anything after 1978, which is when the current building was opened.

I’ve been able to gather some information from newspapers and other sources but am very keen to talk with anyone – former pupils, parents, managers or staff members – who has been associated with the school. Perhaps you have memories that you would be willing to share – or know someone else who might be able to help.  I know that recollections might be a bit hazy after all this time but that doesn’t matter – anything you can tell me would be very helpful.

If your experience of the school is from before 1978, I’d still be interested to talk. Personal accounts will all help to make the book more interesting.

If you think you can help – or if you can put me in touch with someone else – please contact Penge History Group via email at hello@pengehistorygroup.co.uk, and they will put you directly in touch with me.
